Bachelors in Media Sciences

Program OBJECTIVE

The basic objective of this program is to learn students to make media products that can entertain, inform, and challenge. They explore, develop, and communicate ideas through the development of their skills in the use of media technology. In the process, they use language, symbols, and structures to create meaning. In reflecting on their own and others’ products, students develop their production skills. The department emphasizes creativity, visualization, critical thinking and intellectual risk taking.

LEARNING OUTCOME

A. Students will be able to identify and demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical foundations of media.
B. Students will be able to analyze and critique a variety of media products, case studies and issues.
C. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of ethical issues related to the media.
D. Students will be able to plan and prepare an effective communication strategy.
E. Students will demonstrate basic competency in digital multimedia production, including scriptwriting, cinematography, and audio/video editing.
F. Students will be able to analyze media artifacts by considering multiple modes (textual, visual, audio, etc.) and applying accepted critical methodologies.
G. Students will demonstrate basic competency in visual communication, including image creation and manipulation and an understanding of design elements.
